WHAT IS DI?
Destination Imagination (DI) is an international creative problem-solving competition for kids. Teams of up to seven members work together to use creativity and critical thinking skills to solve challenges without assistance from adults or any other non-team members. Students develop leadership, performing, writing, technical, building and teamwork skills as they develop creative solutions! The team chooses one of six Team Challenges to solve over a 12–16 week period and then presents their solution at a regional tournament. The team also solves one Instant Challenge at the tournament. Each Team Challenge is designed to be open-ended and solvable in many ways and on many levels.
HOW DOES DI WORK?
A parent/adult volunteer manages the team, usually with another adult volunteer. Teams consist of no more than 7 students. DI requires a significant time commitment. Teams meet once per week, then more often closer to the tournament. Meetings on Saturdays or Sundays may be required to prepare for the tournament(s). There will be a tournament for students to showcase their challenge solution.
Volunteers are needed to facilitate our kids through the Destination Imagination process. Please consider volunteering as a Team Manager this year! Training is available to help guide you through the process. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
