The President manages the overall objectives and strategies of the PTA in order to meet the specific goals chosen by the membership. They coordinate and oversee the work of officers and committees. They create agendas for and preside over all general membership and executive board meetings. They represent the PTA at school official meetings and act as a liaison between families and Malibu staff. The President oversees adherence to PTA bylaws and regulations. They also serve as an ex-officio member of all PTA committees, except the nominating committee.
VICE PRESIDENT, PROGRAMS
The Vice President, Programs oversees the scheduling and execution of all PTA sponsored events and programs. They are responsible for maintaining the PTA calendar and for working with the President and committee chairs to set event dates. They ensure event/program spending remains in budget and they coordinate with Malibu staff and the Virginia Beach school district to ensure all event rules and regulations are adhered to. The Vice President, Programs also serves as an aide to the President, and steps in to perform the duties of President in the absence or inability of the current President to act.
VICE PRESIDENT, MEMBERSHIP
The Vice President, Membership works to increase membership in the PTA. They organize and oversee membership drives, set annual goals, and actively participate in promoting/collecting memberships at all PTA sponsored events and programs. They also maintain the membership database and prepare reports as necessary. The Vice President, Membership also serves as an aide to the President, and steps in to perform the duties of President in the absence or inability of both the current President and Vice President, Programs to act.
The Treasurer maintains the PTA financial records. They manage and reconcile bank accounts, pay bills, and provide financial reports for all general membership and executive board meetings. They prepare necessary documentation for the annual financial review and keep the PTA compliant with all financial rules and regulations. The Treasurer may also assist program chairs in money management and reporting. A background in accounting is nice, but not necessary for this position.
The Secretary records the minutes of all general membership and executive board meetings. They maintain both the current and historical PTA administrative records. The Secretary also oversees communications with the general membership through email, monthly electronic newsletters, the website, and social media presence.
The VIE (Volunteers in Education) Coordinator is responsible for facilitating and overseeing the volunteer program to engage parents and community volunteers in the school to support students. The VIE Coordinator matches parents' and community members' skills/interests with volunteer opportunities to meet school needs. They also help to create an inviting school climate, identify school needs, recruit and assign volunteers and evaluate and improve the volunteer program.
